Dreaming of traveling to a bucket list destination but can’t seem to figure out how to make it work? Wouldn't it be amazing to travel the world for cheap or or even free?

Lee Huffman has some advice for us that will help us save more and have more fun too. With banks offering a million options for credit cards, it’s hard to know where to begin. Not to mention things like rewards, mileage, and cashback are terms that can seem daunting to a credit card beginner.

Lee walks us through his own experience on how to choose your first card, which programs to sign up for that get you maximizing every dollar you spend while still having fun. It doesn’t take a lot to get started and armed with Lee’s tips and tricks, you can soon be on your way to your dream destination without having to break the bank!

Interview Takeaways

Where do you begin with looking for which credit cards to apply for?

Start slow, you don’t have to get all the cards at once. Do your research with your end goal in mind, check out cards that have rewards programs for the airlines in your city, have hotels in your goal destinations, or the stores you shop frequently at.

What’s a good beginner card?

Flexible currency cards are a good place to start as you can use them to redeem points, earn miles, or turn the points into cash using the cashback system. You can also get one without an annual fee and good cashback on everyday purchases like the Capital One Quicksilver.

How about payments? How do you make sure that you won’t incur any late fees?

Sign up for the automatic minimum payment for your credit card so you won’t get charged for the late fee. It comes in handy especially if you’re the type to forget when the bills are coming in. At least with the minimum payment automated, you won’t have to constantly worry about it.
