Interview Takeaways

1. Understand the 3 Ways to Adopt

With adoption, you have options. The Teixiera Family shared three ways with us:

  • Domestic
  • Foster
  • International

Domestic is the route that they chose. If you’re considering adoption, look into each of these routes, and weigh the pros and cons. Depending on your situation, you might select a completely different path than they did.

2. Use a Side Hustle to Pay for Adoption Costs

Jonathan had a skill for graphic design. He used that skill to work extra hours outside of his job to save up money so he could become a Daddy to his three girls.

Think about what your “unique strength” might be. Could you use that as a side job to make extra cash for your adoption?

3. Get Creative with your Adoption Costs

Who would have thought a simple adoption puzzle would bring in thousands of dollars for an adoption?!

If you don’t have the creative or graphic design skills that Jonathan has, no worries.

Look into adoption grants or even employer benefits to help you achieve your adoption goals.

With some determination and persistence, you’ll be hugging your children in no time.

Guest Bio – Amanda and Jonathan Teixiera

Jonathan and Amanda Teixeira

In January 2012, Jonathan and Amanda Teixeira had $25,000 in debt and a deep desire to break free. A short—and zealous—7½ months later they wrote their last check to Sallie Mae and closed the doors on debt forever.

Since kicking debt to the curb, they’ve focused on saving, investing, and giving in a way that set them up for total financial independence for a lifetime. Upon hearing their story, a few people asked them money questions…and they answered them. That snowballed into hundreds of people asking questions, speaking at events, and providing 1:1 financial coaching.

They launched WalletWin, in 2017 to help as many people as possible get out of debt, build wealth, and transform the world through generosity through their online course, membership, and podcast.

They live in Omaha, NE with their three daughters Josie (4) Charlotte (2) Ellie (1) and crazy but lovable Labrador Retriever, Wrigley.
