Do you find yourself wondering if you’re on the right financial track? Do you sometimes hear about other investment strategies and start to doubt yours? Check out our Nectarine review to see how Nectarine could be exactly what you need.

Nectarine is a company aimed at connecting investors who want advice with financial advisors who are qualified to give it! There are no product sales and no active money management. Instead, Nectarine aims to get you the best and most accurate advice for your specific situation.

What is Nectarine?

Nectarine is a platform that will connect you with a financial advisor and offer insights about your financial situation. They don’t sell products, and they won’t actively manage your money. Instead, they will help you better understand your current financial picture and figure out the next steps for your journey.

The steps are simple. From the Nectarine page, you select your stage from a drop-down menu.

Then, you review the advisors that Nectarine has in their database. In addition to a headshot, you also get a brief bio about each advisor. The icons under their photos tell you:

  • Their average rating from other Nectarine users
  • How many Nectarine sessions they’ve facilitated
  • Whether they are new to Nectarine or not

Once you find an advisor that looks like a good fit, you can click on their profile. After reading a more detailed background sheet, you can also quickly see their next availability to see if it matches yours. Does it seem like a match? Click Schedule an Appointment.

You’ll be prompted to create an account if you don’t already have one. Then, you can schedule your appointment.

During your appointment, you will share a screen with your advisor. They will review your finances and answer your questions throughout the hour time block. At the end of your session, you will receive concrete next steps and a follow-up email with a recap of your session.

Nectarine Review: Best Features

Nectarine Review - Home Page

There are a lot of things to love about Nectarine. Some of the things that caught our eye include:

  • No hidden fees
  • No upselling
  • An emphasis on low fees and index funds

Take a look at how these features can benefit you.

No hidden fees

Nectarine scores major points for price transparency. They post the cost ($150 for the one-hour consultation) upfront on their website. And that’s truly the cost! There’s no additional subscription or trial period or anything. In a day and age where costs are rarely disclosed in such a straightforward manner, Nectarine stands out from the crowd.

No upselling

We are big fans of free. However, we also understand that one way many companies can offer products for free is through upselling. Clients pay to unlock premium features or are targeted with products like credit cards and investment options. For some people, this upsell isn’t a problem.

Low fees

I always stress the importance of paying the lowest fees possible. That’s because high fees can eat away at the growth your money makes. Nectarine understands!

Nectarine’s advisors will help you evaluate the fees you are currently paying and look for low-fee alternatives.

Index Fund Investing

If you’ve been part of the Marriage Kids and Money community for a while, you know we love index funds. They’re one of the most popular investments of choice in personal finance. Because there is so much to love about index funds, Nectarine follows the Personal Finance Club philosophy of buying and selling index funds.

They won’t manage your money for you. So you don’t have to only invest in index funds. However, Nectarine knows that index funds can benefit many investors. That means that they will keep an eye on how they might benefit your portfolio.

Nectarine Review: Areas to Consider

Nectarine Review - Advice Only Financial Advisors

Nectarine could be an invaluable tool for many investors. However, there are some considerations you want to make before working with them.

Short track record

Nectarine is new to the personal finance world. It was created in 2023. That means that it has a relatively short track record. However, many of the advisors in the Nectarine directory have years or decades worth of experience. Still, the short track record means that the reviews and ratings on Nectarine are all relatively new. Digging into each advisor’s bio should help you see their extensive experience. As Nectarine ages, the reviews and ratings will be more comprehensive and long-term making them even more meaningful.

No physical locations

If you want to pull up a chair and sit down with an advisor, that can’t happen with Nectarine. For people who aren’t comfortable sharing computer screens remotely and navigating a digital world, Nectarine might not be the advice service for you.

No direct money management

Are you looking to hand the reins over to someone? That won’t happen with Nectarine. The advisors can offer suggestions and actionable steps. But they won’t manage your money directly. If you aren’t a DIY investor, then you might need more support than Nectarine can offer.

Nectarine Competitors

Are you unsure if Nectarine is right for you? There are several Nectarine competitors that you can explore as well!

XY Planning Network

XY Planning Network is another way to connect with financial advisors. You can search for advisors in your area or look for people to connect with remotely. Like Nectarine, you can search through the advisor's biographies to learn more about them. You can also search by niche and keyword.

One of the most significant differences here is the ability to connect in person. For some people, face-to-face opportunities matter. As a result, XY Planning Network might be better for you.

Facet Wealth

True to its name, Facet Wealth aims to cover every facet of your life. In addition to financial planning, Facet Wealth also helps with education planning, estate planning, and more.

To take advantage of Facet Wealth's services, you pay an annual membership fee. Facet Wealth says that fee is based on the complexity of your situation. Though it doesn't give a lot of detail beyond that, it does say that most people pay $2,000-$6,000 per year. Unlike Nectarine, Facet Wealth intends to provide ongoing support. This level of support and cost could be more appropriate for people who are looking for regular guidance.

Nectarine Review FAQ

You read our Nectarine review and now you want to know more. We are here to help! We’ve found answers to the most common questions about using Nectarine.

What is an advice-only financial advisor?

In general, advice-only financial advisors are credentialed advisors who offer suggestions and advice. As fiduciaries, they are supposed to ask in your best interest. To support this, they do not sell products or additional services. Instead, they charge an hourly fee or flat fee to review your investment portfolio. Depending on how many assets they manage, they either register with their state or the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Is it worth it to pay for financial advice?

There is a lot of advice online! If you’re someone who likes to roll up your sleeves and play around with calculators like our Coast FIRE calculator, Nectarine could be a good fit for you. Nectarine supports DIY investors by acting as a second set of eyes. In addition to general financial advice, Nectarine advisors can help with:

  • Taxes
  • Estate planning
  • College planning
  • Building generational wealth

Since the advisors aim to minimize the fees you pay and help you maximize your portfolio, you can easily make up the cost of the service in investment gains.

What is the difference between a financial advisor and a financial planner?

The names sound similar and for good reason. Financial advisors and planners can serve similar purposes. Typically, though, a financial advisor focuses on investment portfolios. Financial planners use a broader lens to offer guidance by looking at your entire financial picture and your long-range goals.

How can I prepare for my meeting with my advisor?

The more information you can share in an hour, the better. To help you cover everything, you want to make sure that you can access all of your accounts easily. Additionally, Nectarine has some essentials that you want you to prepare before your meeting.

Ahead of your appointment, you should:

  • Complete the intake form
  • Fill out a net worth statement
  • Know your income and expenses

By doing this work in advance, you can maximize your time together.

Final Thoughts on Our Nectarine Review

Overall, Nectarine could be a solid option for many investors. It comes in at a competitive price point while offering fairly robust support for DIY investors. You can work with the same advisor again if a need arises. That means you can get support as often as you need.

Nectarine focuses on many of the core beliefs that are important to us. By emphasizing index funds and low fees, your portfolio diversifies and can grow more effectively. However, if you are looking for active money management, you will need to look elsewhere. Other than that, Nectarine seems to offer advisors that can support most people at any part of their financial journey.
