You have a budget, you have an emergency fund, but there’s a good chance you’re missing a key piece of your financial puzzle. Many Americans are either uninsured or underinsured when it comes to life insurance. Check out our Ethos review to see how easy and affordable term life insurance can be!
What is Ethos?
Ethos bills itself as the best no-exam term life insurance. Users can apply in a matter of minutes for up to $3 million in coverage.
Ethos offers both term and whole life insurance. Term life insurance provides coverage during a set amount of time (aka a term). If the policyholder dies, term life insurance pays a benefit amount to the beneficiaries. On the other hand, whole life insurance is a permanent policy designed to cover you for life.
Ethos is designed to give you the policy that best fits your needs as quickly as possible.
Additionally, Ethos users can also create a will and trust, either for free with certain life insurance policies or on their own.
Ethos currently has a 4.8 rating on Trustpilot with over 90% of its ratings earning 5 stars.
Ethos Review: Best Features

What exactly makes Ethos stand out from all the different life insurance options? Let’s explore some of the best features.
All online
Are you pressed for time? Do you get phone-call phobic? Then you will like Ethos. This platform offers life insurance all online.
To start, you complete a questionnaire to get a quote. After you fill in some basic information, you will have the chance to see different prices for a variety of policy options.
Once you decide to move forward, you can complete an application in approximately 10 minutes. If you are approved, you will receive coverage quickly, even instantly in some cases. No phone calls or in-person meetings required!
Though the self-guided process is straightforward, you do have the option of working with the Ethos agent if you want more help.
Free legal will and estate plan
Certain Ethos policies include will or estate planning tools at no charge. These perks are valued at over $898 for an individual and their spouse.
High-level quote
One of the things we hear most often is that it’s too much work to get life insurance. The fact that Ethos offers a high-level quote so quickly means that more people will have easy access to a key financial puzzle piece.
When we tried Ethos, we found that the high-level quote was accurate and there were no surprises in the application process that followed.
Helpful guide through the process

Have you ever tried to use a new platform and found the tools that offer to be unclear or overwhelming? That won’t be your experience with Ethos.
Starting from the moment you click the “Get My Rates” button, Ethos guides you through the process in an easy-to-follow way.
Some of the questions you answer include:
- What are your goals for life insurance?
- Who depends on you financially?
- When would you like to be covered by life insurance?
- Do you smoke?
- How much remaining debt/mortgage do you have?
- How many kids do you have under 18?
Based on your answers, it lets you know which type of insurance should work best for you.
This guides you to your real rate, which is different from an estimate. Your real rate is the price you would pay if you lock in your insurance on the day of the quote.
Throughout the process, the questions are clear, and the tool is easy to navigate.
When I was applying, I actually used their customer service as well. The agent was helpful in answering my questions about the process. They also offered insight into life insurance in general.
Full process in Under 20 minutes
People mistakenly believe that getting life insurance can be a long, complicated ordeal. In fact, less than half of millennials have life insurance, partly because it feels complicated.
With Ethos, you can complete the full process in under 20 minutes. That means that by the end of your lunch break, you can finally check this off your to-do list!
No medical exam required
Our Ethos review would not be complete without mentioning that there is no medical exam required.
Instead, you'll answer online questions about your health, habits, and medical conditions, which will be used to assess your candidacy and premium. For many people who put off the life insurance process due to the medical exam, this is a big win.
Ethos Review: Things to Consider
Before you log on and get your quote in a matter of minutes, there are a few things that you want to consider about Ethos life insurance. We don’t believe there are any real deal breakers–unless you live in New York. Read on to learn more:
Per Day Pricing
Ethos is transparent with its pricing. But we don’t love the fact that the pricing is per day. For instance, their website advertises the fact that a $2 million policy starts at $2/day.
Many of us can indeed envision the cost of things on a per-day scale. For example, you might now realize that life insurance is more affordable than your coffee habit. However, we still think that monthly or annual pricing would be more helpful. That’s because most of us look at our budgets through a monthly lens. If Ethos published monthly pricing, it would be much simpler to see how life insurance fits into your current budget.
Limited Customer Service Channels
Are you someone who avoids making phone calls? Ethos might not be the right choice for life insurance then. That’s because currently the primary way to receive support is over the phone.
To get support, you can call 888-384-6754. You can also email support(at)ethoslife.com.
Not Available in New York
Ethos is not currently available if you live in New York. You won’t be eligible for life insurance through Ethos with a New York address. However, their site will direct you to a variety of insurance options if you call New York home.
Ethos Competitors
Ethos isn’t the only platform determined to make it easier for you to get life insurance. Check out these Ethos competitors to see how they stack up.
Quotacy
Quotacy takes everything we love about insurance brokers and makes it even easier to use by taking it online. That’s right. Quotacy will review top-rated online policies and help you choose the one that is right for you.
You can also fine-tune your coverage by adjusting the length of the term and the amount of coverage you want.
Another thing we love about Quotacy is that you can shop anonymously until you’re ready to purchase your policy. Even after you input your personal information, Quotacy takes your privacy seriously. That means no annoying phone calls or follow-up sales pitches.

Ladder
Ladder is an insurance platform that offers coverage for people ages 20-60. While Ladder is similar to other insurtech platforms, it stands out because you can customize your coverage at any time. Once you adjust your coverage, Ladder adjusts your premium. Ladder says that their goal is to make obtaining insurance safe, easy, and affordable.
It is worth noting that Ladder has more NAIC complaints than Ethos. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners compares complaints received to a company’s market share. Ladder has more complaints than expected, so you may want to dig into those complaints before proceeding.
Final Thoughts on Ethos Review
Ethos makes it simple to cross life insurance off your to-do list. The streamlined process allows users to get term (or whole) life insurance secured quickly and easily.
Overall, we give 4.5 stars and think many people will find Ethos suitable for their life insurance needs. Visit Ethos now to see how quick and easy it is to get your free estimate.
